It has been awhile since I have blogged, in all honesty I have thought about possibly stopping our blog. There are a few reasons for this! First, we haven't been doing many fun activities. Lou and I have both been busy with work and not much more than that. So for the sheer lack of topics I have thought about quitting.
Secondly, I thought about stopping because it seems as though some people are using our blog as the only way of communication with our family. I have had a hard time understanding this, and finally I decided that I would just put it out there. I think it is absurd that some people would use a blog as a way to stay "informed" on what we have been doing as a family instead of picking up the phone and calling. When I started this blog my intentions were a fun way for our family and friends to see pictures of the fun things we were doing and when we were blessed to find out that we were having Mia I thought it would be a great way to get her pictures out there. I never thought it would be used in replacement for actually talking and communicating with us. Technology at times makes me very angry and frustrated. I know it is convenient and easy to text people instead of call them, I know at times it is even easier to email someone instead of calling them and don't get me wrong, I am guilty of this as well. However, I would never not call my friends or family to see how they are doing because "I can just get on their blog." I told Lou at the beginning of the year that I was going to use my phone less. I wanted to remember what it was like to live without a smart phone attached to my hip all the time. I wanted to be able to go somewhere and not have anyone be able to get a hold of me or not be able to access the Internet. There are days when I leave my phone at home and go about my business and it is kind of liberating! I feel as though nowadays people have forgotten what communication means; yes it is easy to send a quick text to ask "What time are you going to be home" instead of calling, but we shouldn't be having whole conversations via text just because it is easier. Kids nowadays have no idea what it was like to pass notes in class and risk getting caught and having their note read in front of the class, because they don't do that, they text each other!!
I have expressed these concerns to Lou and he thinks I should continue the blog for Mia. He thinks in the long run she will like to see it and we will both appreciate it when we are older and can't remember all the cute things she did when she was little! So he wins! I will continue to blog! I don't know how regularly I will do it, but I will try to at least update monthly if not more frequently.
And you should do it for your friend, Brandy, who is out on maternity leave and wants to read about someone she knows when she is up nursing the baby for hours on end in the middle of the night ;) now, I have to catch up on Mia. . .
ReplyDeleteOh and I totally know what you mean. The sad thing is some of my friends now read my blog, I don't hear from them for weeks, but they seem to know the things I blog about as if I personally told them! (And since Joey has been born I just haven't blogged as much as I wanted to).
DeleteI love the blog, especially the pictures....but I understand....we have all become too lazy and allowed "tech" to enter our lives when a simple card, phone call, or visit would be so much nicer. My suggestion is that you do shorter posts, and possibly more pics with short descriptions. In any case, my beautiful daughter, son in law, and sweet baby Mia are joys in my life...so glad I have all 3 of you!
ReplyDeleteGrandma Julie....see you in a month!
I agree with the technology problem! But I love to see pics and info that I might not get from you over the phone. love and miss you all!!
ReplyDeleteJune can't get here fast enough!!
